Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
